Neurology

Neurology is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of conditions and disease involving the nervous system. The nervous system is a complex system that regulates and coordinates body activities. It has two major divisions:

• Central nervous system (CNS): the brain and spinal cord.
• Peripheral nervous system (PNS): all other neural elements, such as nerves, muscles, and sensory receptors.

Neurologists diagnose and treat a wide range of neurological disorders, including:

• Cerebrovascular disease: disorders of the blood vessels supplying the brain, such as stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA).
• Demyelinating diseases: disorders that damage the myelin sheath that insulates nerve fibers, such as multiple sclerosis.
• Headache disorders: migraine, cluster headache, and tension headache.
